Hello, Team Avatar! 

We’re back, refreshed, and eager to keep the journey going! After some nice tea on our time off, we’ve gotten back to the work of making this epic game happen! We hope you had a great September!

Here’s what’s been going in Magpie Games HQ for Avatar Legends!

Backerkit Fulfillment

We are excited to work with Backerkit for fulfillment! Backerkit is a third-party software designed for pledge management. We’ll be using Backerkit to get your shipping information, allow you to get more add-ons if you want them, deliver PDF rewards, and manage your pledges!

Backerkit surveys will be sent to everyone via the email address used on their Kickstarter account. These surveys will be sent in waves, so don’t panic if you don’t get it right away. We’ve submitted it to review with Backerkit yesterday, and we’ll do a smoke test with a small number of backers before it goes out to everyone. You should see it by the start of next week!

You MUST complete your Backerkit survey to get your rewards. The survey will allow you to enter your shipping address, add any add-ons, and upgrade your pledge. If you do not fill out your survey, we cannot ship your pledge next year.

If you haven’t received your survey by October 30th, or run into any issues navigating Backerkit, please email us at [email protected] and we’re happy to help you out. Do not DM us on the Kickstarter, please email us directly.

Failed Pledges

If you backed the Kickstarter, and your pledge failed, you will still get a Backerkit survey and the opportunity to fix your dropped pledge. If you have already late-pledged after your payment failed, you will have two orders, one for your late pledge and one for your failed pledge during the campaign. Please do not pay for both. If you need help because you have two orders, please email us at [email protected].

Late Pledges

Late pledges will still be available until November 1st. We are keeping them open as long as we can to ensure those who missed out can get the game!

Luxury Dice Update

We’re so excited to show you some previews for the dice! But We also have an exciting update for everyone! We’ve just heard from Level Up Dice, and they’ve told us that we should receive enough dice to fulfill all the orders on the original timeline, meaning late shipping will not be needed!

Next Steps

Now that the team is back in the office, we’re working hard on sourcing the resources for printing so many books, playtesting mechanics, and finishing the book. It’s a busy time as we all work hard to get this amazing game to you!

We are still working with manufacturers on what delays might be caused by the sheer number of things needed to print. We should have an update on the shipping timeline in November!

Dante Basco Joins the Celebrity Actual Play

We just got word (today!) that Dante Basco (Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra) will be joining our all-star actual play event!

We’re really excited for these folks to play the game, both because we think it’s a lot of fun to watch a team of talented folks play the game and because it gives us a new way to show you all how to play. We’re always looking for new ways to convey the magic of roleplaying to new players, as well as show you new tricks for making the game work at your table.

We’ll have more info about this actual play event in early 2022. For now, we’re going to be completely focused on making sure we get you all everything you’ve pledged for as soon as we can.

Wow, team Avatar! We really can’t believe it! This has been such an incredible journey, and we can’t thank you enough for all your ideas, insights, thoughts, and excitement as we’ve been on this journey together.

Our final stretch goal is unlocked! Let’s take a look!

Final Stretch Goal Unlocked: All-Star Actual Play One Shot -  $8,000,000

At $8 million, we’re producing an all-star actual play one shot featuring Satine Phoenix (Satine's Quest, Sirens: Battle of the Bards), Becca Scott (Good Time Society, South Park), and Jennie Kwan (California Dreams, Avatar: The Last Airbender)!

This single session adventure will feature new characters created for the event and portrayed by these amazing actors and streamers, taking on an adventure designed by the Magpie Games team just for this event. And who knows? There might be another special guest or two who drops by to join the fun…

The adventure they play will be made into an exclusive PDF adventure just for backers! Join in the fun by playing the same adventure at home with your own gaang! A PDF adventure will be created after the game and sent exclusively to our backers!

Backers at the Fire Ferret level and above get early access to the actual play production in early 2022 via Backerkit’s digital downloads, and we’ll post the final version to our YouTube channel for anyone and everyone to enjoy when the core book is released in retail stores.They will also get an exclusive PDF of the adventure so they can play it themselves!

The Journey Continues… as the Campaign Comes to a Close

As we head into the final two days of the Kickstarter, we want to express our deepest gratitude for all your help over this campaign. It’s been an incredible journey, filled with surprises, mind blowing support, astronomical record smashing, and such love and kindness from you, Team Avatar!

Thanks to all of you we've raised nearly four times the previous record for a tabletop rpg on Kickstarter, funded more than thirty stretch goals, unlocked a full hardcover book worth of material, and shown the amazing power of the Avatar Legends fanbase. This campaign is incredibly special, not just because of the amount we've raised, but also because you all have shown how much joy and excitement there is for more stories in the Avatarverse!

We can’t wait to see where we’ll be at the end of this journey, but we know for certain you’ve been an integral part of it! So thank you, once again, for your kindness, excitement, and support. Holy Shu, Team Avatar…we’re still breaking records! We’ve raised nearly $8 million—with two days left to go—and we’re closing in on the top ten projects of all time thanks to your awesome support. That’s right. We’re currently #16! And if we can reach $9.2 million (maybe??), we’ll take our spot in the top ten ahead of some of the biggest tabletop games ever Kickstarted. Thank you so much for making this such an amazing campaign.

But that’s for the days ahead. For now, it’s time to tell you all about our FINAL stretch goal. Kickstarter update, do the thing!

This is the last stretch goal for this campaign—but not the last cool thing we’re going to do for it! We’ve got another few fun things in for approvals with Avatar Studios and ViacomCBS, but you all have done such an amazing job breaking every single record that we don’t want to directly tie anything else to the funding for the campaign. We’ll announce more fun projects and cool opportunities as we get them approved, and rest assured, you’ll be the first to hear about them!

Global Supply Issues

On that note, we wanted to take a moment to let you know about some potential challenges on the horizon. In short, this campaign has now grown to a size that we are encountering limits on the global paper supply available for printing this many books—our printer is telling us that there may not be enough cardboard in the United States to print these books on our original schedule.

We’re ahead of this issue—and every other global supply/shipping issue—because we’ve been working since 2020 to make sure we had everything lined up to send everything to you all on time. But… the success of this campaign is so big, so monumental, so incredible, that you all are straining the capacity of every printer we’re talking to about the new order quantities.

What does this mean? Well… we’re not sure yet. We’re already talking to new printers who work at this scale about finding special sources of materials, and we’re still hopeful that we’ll ship everything to you in February as planned; we expect to have all of the PDFs and prototypes done right on time. But getting such a massive order through printing when there isn’t enough cardboard is tough! We wanted to make sure you all knew early, and we promise we’re going to keep working on the problem. Stay tuned!

We are absolutely blown away, Team Avatar! 7 million! With 9 days to still go! We cannot believe how amazing this project is thanks to your support, excitement, enthusiasm, and epic ideas!

We’re heading into the final stretch with an unlocked goal and what's to come! Yip yip!

Unlocked Stretch Goal: Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide - $7,000,000

At $7 million, we're upgrading all of the booklets in the campaign to a hardcover book! Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide is an upgraded 8.5 x 11” hardcover version of all five adventure booklets, alongside all of the Legends and playbooks unlocked during the campaign.

This supplement will have new material featuring the all-knowing spirit Wan Shi Tong and his incredible spirit library. What secrets will you discover among the tomes and scrolls kept by the elder spirit? What adventures will you undertake? Just remember…you must offer something to the library to take anything of value, so come prepared with knowledge he does not yet know!

We know that some folks are still really excited about the smaller booklets! So...the individual adventure booklets will still be available as add-ons if you want them as single booklets in addition to this beautiful hardcover.

You can add the individual booklets to your pledge as an add-on in Backerkit after the campaign closes. And since we know folks have expressed a desire to have all six booklets, we’re offering a special bundle of all the Adventure Booklets + Expanded Play Book for just $40!

Backers at the Otter-Penguin pledge level and up receive Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide for free! Backers at the Fire Ferret pledge level and up get access to Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide PDF for free!

Future Stretch Goals: $8,000,000 and beyond…

We are still working on stretch goals beyond $7 million, but… we’re not quite ready to announce what’s coming next. We will definitely have an $8,000,000 stretch goal, so stay tuned for more info in a future update as soon as we have all our turtle-ducks in a row.

That said, the addition of the Wan Shi Tong Adventure Guide is the last physical stretch goal for this campaign. We are getting focused on producing and delivering all this amazing content, and future stretch goals will not be adding any new physical items to the campaign in order to ensure we can deliver everything we promised as quickly as possible!!
