Hello Team Avatar! We know we just updated you on the final PDFs, but there’s so much going on with the project it’s important to do another update in our usual monthly way! So dive in and get ready for the latest news on where the project is at, what’s happening, and what’s on the horizon!
Printing Updates
As we mentioned in an earlier update, everything is at the printer. After doing a lot of searching trying to find a printer in the USA, dramatic supply shortages meant it became impossible to print here. The sheer volume of books needed required more paper and cardboard than we could find within the USA on any schedule we wanted. As a result, we found a printer in China that can print the huge amount of books that we need while keeping to our schedule.
That being said, China is currently experiencing a surge in Covid cases and lockdowns. We’re not anticipating any delays to the overall schedule right now, but we need to also be aware that such delays may come. If we do have to push the schedule, we will let you know in an update on what to expect and what those timelines will look like.
Right now the books and various accessories are in a process of proofing and pre-press with our printers. For the books, we’re hoping to get a print proof very soon. Print proofs are the last stage before printing the books, when we’ll verify that everything looks good, the colors are right, and so on. During the print proofs, we’ll do the last round of edits and changes.
All of the accessories are in these same stages. This includes the deck, the boxes, the dice, the map, and the Pai Sho tile. Once the accessories and books are through the print proof, we’ll let you know what the printing and shipping timeline is. As we said, it currently is still on track for mid-year (this summer).
FAQ
We’ve had a myriad of questions coming in and thought an updated FAQ would help with some of them! We can’t update the FAQ on the Kickstarter anymore, so please bear that in mind when checking there. We’ll add FAQs to updates as we need to!
Can I change my shipping address?
You can update your address information at any time in Backerkit. Please log in and do it there! Thanks!

Can I still preorder?
Unfortunately, late pledges closed on January 1st. You will be able to preorder the game in the coming months once we're closer to shipping.
How can we play the Avatar?
The focus of Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying game is on the whole team, so playing the Avatar isn't something we recommend. We also worked closely with Avatar Studios to present the material in a way that was true to their world, which included leaving some blank spaces for future Avatar Legends stories about the Avatar! That said, a lot of the tools you need to play the Avatar are in the book—drawing techniques from multiple trainings, using statuses like Empowered and Favored to represent the Avatar State, and choosing playbooks like The Icon or The Hammer.
Can I print the play materials at Staples?
Right now, you won’t be able to. We’re working with ViacomCBS closely to figure out exactly what the print rights will look like for the final materials.
Can I share the PDF with friends?
You can use the PDF and share it for the sake of private use. If you are running a game, you can share it with your players.
Are there resources for streamers?
Yes! Please shoot us an email at [email protected] if you need access to them!
Can I change my email address?
Yes! Please email us at [email protected] and we’ll change your email address on Backerkit.

Core Book Final PDF

Hello Team Avatar! We’re excited to bring you a new update on the Core Book! We’ve been hard at work getting you the final core book complete with the art it was missing and we’re excited to announce it’s finally ready!
Core Book Final Release
We mentioned earlier that we would have the final core book for you soon and today is that day! Backerkit is uploading links to the final core book! You may have been notified already! This final version has everything that was missing from the preview we sent. Errors have been corrected, chapter art has been included, and the book is ready to go!
The links to the final core book will be uploaded via Backerkit as they have been previously. Next week, DriveThruRPG will also upload them to your libraries. This delay is to ensure the server isn’t overloaded.
Your file should be with you by April 15th. If it don't, please email us at [email protected]
If you received your original file via a DriveThruRPG link, which required you to check out, then your preview file in DriveThru will simply be updated to the final version. If you received your original file via Backerkit and just clicked to download, then when you go to DriveThruRPG, you may have two files: the preview and the final. You can tell the final by if the file has chapter art.

Materials Update
We’re still working on updating all of the play materials for both the core book and Wan Shi Tong’s. We should have updated versions of these to you by the end of the month. Once those are available to you, we’ll also open up a feedback form so we can start taking your feedback on the play materials and incorporating it.
We continue to work steadily on getting everything finalized. Once we have more information on timelines and printing dates, we’ll update you on those. Until then, please keep sending us your feedback and giving us your insights! We can’t thank you enough for all your support as we go through this process! Avatar Legends has become an incredible project all thanks to you, Team Avatar!
Play Materials Now Available

Hello Team Avatar! We are back with a tiny little update to let you know how things are progressing and give you some good news!
Play Materials Now Available
We’ve been working hard at Magpie Games HQ to get the updated play materials out, and we’re happy to say they’re ready! The play materials include the updated playbooks that everyone has been seeking from the core book preview! There are also sheets with the basic, balance, and combat moves, along with the GM tools and the NPC sheets!
In addition, we’re ALSO releasing the play materials for Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide. If you’re excited about the Destined, the Elder, the Foundling, and the Razor… you’ll have access to those playbooks as well!
You can grab all of these play materials via Backerkit, the same way you did the core book preview. For ease of access, you can always log in to Backerkit and then use this link to see your Digital Rewards that are currently available:

Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide Update
We are working with DrivethruRPG and Backerkit to deliver the PDF to you before April 1st, as per our last update. That process is going well and things are moving swiftly. As we’re using the process we did for the core book preview, you’ll receive an email notification when the file is available.

Happy Spring, Team Avatar! We’re back with some updates on what’s been going on over at Magpie Games HQ! We’re excited to give you updates on where everything is at in our process!
Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide Preview
Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide is nearly ready to be sent to you! We’ve passed through many, many approvals, and we are currently finalizing the PDF preview! We’ll send out your Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide preview by the end of the month, just as we did the core book preview.
In Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide you’ll find all of the adventure books, all of the unlocked playbooks, and all of the unlocked legends, plus some all-new content on Wan Shi Tong and his amazing library! The book is complete, outside of typos and small corrections, so you can add this content to your game right away! The play materials, as with the core book, are not through layout yet but will be available soon!
You will receive the files in the exact same way you receive the files for the core book preview. Please keep in mind that this is a preview and not the final PDF. This means we’ll be looking for your feedback and help to find typos and errors by reporting them to us using the form below!
Feedback on the PDF
We know everyone loves to help us catch typos and errors, and we’re so excited for all the help you folks can give! If you find a typo or error in Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide, please use the form below to report it to us. The window of reporting is quite small as we will be headed to the printer with the file shortly.
Please DO NOT share typos or errors in the Kickstarter comments, to our email, in our Discord, or in the Kickstarter DMs. We will likely miss those notes! We will rely on this form to track all information about typos and errors. Thank you!

Getting Help
Just like last time, the PDF will be released in batches. Please be patient. We will update you folks here and on our Discord (https://discord.gg/RUFWCbC) as the process progresses and when batches start going out. We do our best to keep clear communication with you, but we cannot answer each inquiry into where we are in the process, as that slows us down and keeps us from getting the PDFs out quickly. Please be patient as we go through this next PDF delivery!
If you do not have your PDF by April 1st, please email us at [email protected]. Please email us including your name on your account, your email used on your account (or your backer number), and put “Avatar Legends: WSTAG PDF Help” in the subject line.
If you email us before April 1st about missing PDFs, we will not reply. Our customer service team is going to work hard to help everyone get their PDFs, but emailing before the deadline will only slow down the process by overrunning our inbox. DO NOT contact us about missing PDFs until April 1st.
Core Book Update
We are no longer accepting feedback on the core book preview that we sent you last month. Thank you so much for all your hard work in reporting the typos and errors you found! We’ve sent this all over to layout to ensure the changes are made! Once that work is finished, and the final art imported, we’ll have a beautiful new PDF to send to you that will be the final PDF.
The play materials for both books will be released shortly as we finish layout on them so you can begin using playbooks from the core book and Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide! We’re excited for you to get those play materials and integrate them into your games! When the files are ready, you will receive a notification email from Backerkit about new files. You’ll be able to get these files the same way you got the core book PDF: by downloading them directly from Backerkit without needing to go through DTRPG.
Next Steps
Once we get both WSTAG and the core book finalized, and those files to the printer, we’ll start getting printing and shipping estimates together. During this time we’ll also be working to align schedules for the All-Star Actual Play and work on the development of the Avatar Legends RPG Virtual Tabletop. As we work through this content, we will continue to update you on its progress and include announcements about them on the Kickstarter!

Core Book PDF Preview
The Core Book PDF Preview isn't the final PDF release of the core book; it's missing several art pieces at the beginning of each chapter. These pieces are in the final stage of approval and will be added to the book while it's at the printer.
That said... the text and layout are complete! Other than correcting typos and adding in the final art, the core book is done. We are so excited to share this first look at the final game and send us any feedback you have on typos or problems you find!

Getting Your Preview PDF
Ready to get your Preview PDF? Here’s the plan! There are a lot of backers for this project, so we need to take special steps to make sure the PDF rollout goes smoothly.
But before you download your PDF, please remember that each PDF will be invisibly marked and tied to your Kickstarter account. You can download the PDF multiple times from the links we provide, but the PDF you download will be tied to you each time you download it. Please don’t publicly share or upload the PDF without permission!
If you are receiving only one copy of the Core Book PDF, Backerkit will notify you via email that your files are ready and provide a link you can use to download your PDF! You won’t need to log into DriveThruRPG or have an account there in order to directly download the preview. All you’ll need to do is click on the link.
- If you already have an account with DriveThruRPG, the PDF will also be added to your library. You can login and download your file from DTRPG directly, but please try to use the link provided via Backerkit so that DTRPG can better manage 80,000+ backers downloading the PDF at the same time!
- If you don’t have an account with DriveThruRPG, they have already created one for you based on the email you used for this Kickstarter; they will add the PDF to your account as well. DriveThruRPG has contacted you directly if they created an account for you with login instructions and an account merge tool so that you can merge your new account with an existing account if you already have an account with DTRPG. These emails went out late last week. You do not need to have a DTRPG account to access the PDF; you can simply access the PDF directly through the link from Backerkit.
Backers with multiple Core Book PDFs will get an email from Backerkit with codes (links) that can each be redeemed one time for a copy of the PDF. If you backed for multiple PDF copies for friends/retail customers, you will receive multiple links; please give additional links you receive directly to your friends/retail customers, so they can download their own copies!
Getting Help
Because there are so many of you–more than 80,000!–the PDFs will be released in batches. These batches will take several days to send out, which means you will have the PDF by the end of the month.
